Nephrologist. Director and Founder, Nephology Department, Hospital Civil de Guadalajara, Mexico; Director and Founder, Postgraduate Nephrology Fellowship, University of Guadalajara Health Sciences Center, Guadalajara. Co-Chair , World Kidney Day Steering Committee. Member of Mexico’s CONACYT’s National Researcher System (SNI), Level 3.Past-President, International Federation of Kidney Foundations (IFKF); former Chair, ISN Committee on Kidney Health in Disadvantaged Populations. He has pioneered the study of the epidemiology of ESRD and CKD detection and prevention in Mexico. Advocate for CKD awareness and equal access to renal care. He’s the recipient of the National Kidney Foundation’s International Distinguished Medalist 2009 (USA), for his contributions to the field of kidney disease. His research interests include the epidemiology, prevention and treatment of CKD in disadvantaged populations. He has authored over 100 publications and book chapters on the topic. He is the co-editor of the book “Chronic Kidney Disease in Disadvantaged Populations”.
