简介

Dr. Anderson Messias Rodrigues is an Assistant Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), where, for the past decade, he has led the Laboratory of Emerging Fungal Pathogens within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology (DMIP). His work focuses on the molecular epidemiology, diagnostics, and evolution of emerging fungal pathogens, particularly Sporothrix, Paracoccidioides, Histoplasma, and Fusarium species. Dr. Rodrigues utilizes advanced molecular and epidemiological methods to investigate significant public health challenges, such as the expanding zoonotic epidemic of sporotrichosis driven by Sporothrix brasiliensis. Reflecting its impact, his research is highly cited (FWCI > 2.6), with a substantial portion of his publications ranking among the top 10% most cited worldwide and appearing in leading international journals (based on Scopus data 2014-2023). His research portfolio is further characterized by strong international (FWCI > 3.3) and national collaborations. By integrating innovative diagnostic approaches and studies on host-pathogen interactions, his work aims to enhance the understanding, management, and control of these challenging fungal infections, thereby advancing human health. Dr. Rodrigues received his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology (2015) from UNIFESP under the mentorship of Dr. Zoilo Pires de Camargo. His doctoral thesis, "Emerging pathogens in the genus Sporothrix and global evolution of pathogenicity," provided a multi-faceted perspective on sporotrichosis emergence, encompassing epidemiology, molecular/serological diagnosis, and pathogen-host-environment interplay. This impactful research earned three prestigious national awards: the Grand Prize CAPES in Natural Sciences (Nise da Silveira) for the best thesis in Brazil (Natural Science, awarded by CAPES and CWF), the CAPES Best Biological Science Thesis Prize (Microbiology, Immunology, and Parasitology, 2016), and the CAPES-Interfarma Prize for Innovation and Research (2016). Additionally, Dr. Rodrigues is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of scientists, actively mentoring undergraduate (scientific initiation), Master's, and Ph.D. students within the graduate programs of excellence in Microbiology and Immunology, and Infectious Diseases at EPM-UNIFESP, contributing significantly to the development of highly qualified researchers in these critical fields.
