Background
I am an Implementation Scientist and currently teach and do research at the School of Health Sciences, University of Dundee, UK. Prior to this, I was an Associate Professor at the Institute of Health Research, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho Ghana.
I obtained my PhD from the University of Amsterdam (Medical Faculty), Netherlands specializing in medical technical quality care and health financing. I also have skilled training in patient safety, clinical epidemiology, data safety and monitoring, good clinical practice. I am also a DAAD alumnus
Experience and expertise
I have over ten years cumulative clinical, education and health systems research experience in low- and middle-income countries (LMICSs) including Ghana.
In terms of academic leadership and managerial experience, I have been the head of research at the Health Training Institutions Secretariat of the Ministry of Health Ghana, head of department of public health nursing department, Dean of International Programmes, and director of the Centre for Health Policy and Implementation Research, at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana.
I am a member of international bodies including Health Systems Global (HSG), WHO Global Health Network, British Academy of Early Career Researchers (BA-ECR), Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB). Likewise, I am a certified Good Clinical Practice (GCP) researcher and WHO/TDR-trained Implementation Research scientist.
I am currently an adjunct lecturer and PhD supervisor for York University Canada, University of Groningen, Netherlands and University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
I am equally a registered grant reviewer for UK funding agencies, and an associate editor of the BMC Health Services Research and BMC Public Health peer review journals.
Research Interests
My research expertise is implementation research and global health. I also have interests in healthcare policy and planning, HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer, diseases of poverty, health systems strengthening, patient safety, healthcare financing, universal health coverage and community engagement.
I have led and collaborated in several research grants. The most recent grant being WHO/ALLIANCE implementation research grant of US$ 200,000 on malaria vaccine uptake in Ghana (alliance-rfp-mainstream-mentor-institute-ghana-mozambique-pakistan.pdf (who.int)). My motivation in life is to promote universal access to quality healthcare through cutting-edge scientific evidence for the ultimate benefit of society and humanity.
