Ha H. Bui

Ha Bui is a Professor and Head of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Monash University. His primary research interests lie in computational mechanics and material modelling, with a particular emphasis on bridging scales in modelling failure of geomaterials, along with advancing mathematical models to solve multi-physics problems & developing novel monitoring & early warning systems for geo-disasters. The key objective of his research is to create “balanced” computational tools (i.e., between efficiency & mechanisms) to solve real-life engineering applications. He is the main developer and founder of GeoXPM, an innovative continuum particle-based computing software designed for solving geomechanics & geotechnical engineering applications involving fractures and large deformations. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards and recognitions, including the 2021 ALERT Research Medal awarded by The Alliance of Laboratories in Europe for Education, Research and Technology (ALERT Geomaterials), the Future Fellowship Award from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the JSPS Fellowship Award from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS). Bui is the Editor of Computers & Geotechnics (Elsevier), is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Environmental & Civil Engineering (Taylor & Francis), and serves on the Editorial Board for several esteemed journals, e.g., Int. J Numerical & Analytical Methods in Geomechanics (Wiley), Materials & Designs (Elsevier), Canadian Geotechnical Journal, Int J Rock Mechanics & Mining Science (Elsevier), and Acta Geotechnica (Springer), the leading journals in the areas. He frequently reviews over 20 top journals in geotechnical engineering, computational geomechanics and solid mechanics & physics. He has also been frequently invited to assess proposals (ARC Discovery Project, ARC Future Fellow, ARC DERAC & ARC Linkage Project) for the Australian Research Council (ARC), Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong, Canada Research Chairs Program (CRC-P) and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
