简介

Researcher, professor and consultant with more than 20 years of experience in the study and conservation of tropical forests in Colombia, one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet. His research focuses on the multidimensional tree diversity (taxonomic, phylogenetic and functional) and has participated in a large number of expeditions to little-explored floristically in the Andes, Amazonia, Choco, Caribbean and Orinoquia. He has lectured at more than 50 academic events, both internationally and nationally. He has participated in the publication of over a hundred manuscripts including scientific articles, book chapters, abstracts in conference proceedings and articles for popularization. He has participated as a student or instructor in more than 30 courses of scientific updating and teacher training. He has directed or co-directed more than 40 undergraduate and master's theses. He has also collaborated in the preparation of several doctoral theses, in academic commissions, in the elaboration of study plans and in the design of courses in a dozen Colombian universities. Since 2001, he has led a Colombian Forest Monitoring Network (Red Col-Tree), which brings together researchers from various Colombian institutions working on 70 forest monitoring plots distributed widely in 48 localities and 12 plant formations representing 90% of the forest types that exist in Colombia. Since 2004, he has been part of several international research networks to study the interrelationship between tropical forest and climate change on a large scale, such as the Amazon Forest Inventory Network (RAINFOR), The Global Ecosystem Monitoring Network (GEM), the Latin American Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest Floristic Network (DRYFLOR) and the Andean Forest Network (RBA).
